Tickets for the event are $10 for general admission and $20 for Beer and BBQ. Tailgating spots are available on a limited basis for $25 per truck load. There is ample free parking at the event. Spectators will enjoy four hours of exciting and fast paced polo, beer and BBQ and access to all vendor areas and special exhibits the day of the match. Events manager Sean Clem is also inviting non-profits, retail stores and businesses to come out and showcase their goods and services. There is no fee for the space.
“We will have representatives from antique car clubs, nonprofits and clubs on hand, a DJ and a custom built dance floor, several food areas and two full bars. We are making these Friday night polo matches something that will appeal to everyone not just polo enthusiasts, Clem commented.

The sunlight Saddle and Polo Club is a 2,000 acre equestrian facility with two arenas and a covered arena. There is also a polo arena, club house, 25 stall show barn facility offering first class full care and acres of Old Florida landscape with miles of riding trails.
According to Sean Clem, Events Manager, the United States Polo Association (USPA) is focused on grooming American polo players and increasing the awareness of the sport to a diverse audience. The on-site Saddle Club Riding Academy will also provided polo and riding classes with their own safe, well-trained school horses.
Sunlight General Manager and player Dan Healy commented, “Polo has always been a traditionally male dominated sport until recently. This year the USPA noted that 62 % of all novice polo players are women. Until now these exceptional female polo players have had nowhere to showcase their talents”.
In addition to great polo, spectators can expect to enjoy a host of additional activities both during and after the matches. Event organizer and owner of the facility Cliff Burg, renowned South Florida real estate guru and formerly of Burg and DiVosta Homes says“ I have had this land for 20 years and have slowly developed this property specifically for the equestrian lifestyle. Sunlight Ranch which is adjacent to the property offers 20 acre ranchettes, ideal for anyone who owns horses and needs a place to ride and train.”
Sunlight Saddle Club is interested in offering top-notch facilities and polo matches to a diverse audience. According to Bob Ryers coordinator of the event and patron of Team BluHorse, a women’s polo club, “People may think of polo as a sport only for the elite but we are widening our audience. We want to bring the exciting world of polo to a broader audience and show the South Florida community that polo is for everyone and polo matches are a lot of fun.”
The Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch is a fifty-year-old Florida institution that is affiliated with the county Sheriff’s offices whose mission is: prevent delinquency and develop strong, lawful, resilient, and productive citizens who will make a positive contribution to our communities for years to come.

“We will have representatives from antique car clubs, nonprofits and clubs on hand, a DJ and a custom built dance floor, several food areas and two full bars. We are making these Friday night polo matches something that will appeal to everyone not just polo enthusiasts, Clem commented.

Marinefuel.com Announces real-time marine fuel prices online, ahead of the 2010 Miami Boat Show!
 |
Stuart, FL, February 4, 2010 - - After 2 years of research, development, and hard work, the dedicated Marinefuel.com Team and it’s investors are pleased to announce the first (and only) marine industry portal of it's kind. Providing immediate access to the most accurate marina services information available on the internet today, Marinefuel.com streamlines fuel transactions within the marine industry.
In service to all boaters and fuel providers, a free Basic Membership opens the Fuel Dock Prices™ & E-Marina™ database, putting comprehensive and centralized information at Member’s fingertips. The system also has advanced searching capabilities making it easy for members to locate a merchant based on fuel brand, fuel treatment, facility amenity, and much more.
Using The Fuel Bid Desk™ to arrange purchase of 1000 gallons or more, Members can request, review, and then select a preferred vendor to deliver wholesale priced fuel. The website is designed to generate up to 50% savings on every fuel purchase, and offers a variety of services to meet the diverse needs of the marine industry consumer.
William N. McKenna, President of Marinefuel.com, LLC states: “By spring time, I anticipate the price of oil will be more than $90/barrel. This will push retail prices across the Nation to over $5.00/gallon for marine gasoline and marine diesel fuel. These prices are already showing up in the Bahamas and Caribbean this year, so to combat this economic trend, we’ve created a tool which easily produces the best ROI in the industry.”
Saving professionals and boating enthusiasts hundreds (or thousands) of dollars with free data access for boaters, and free advertising for marinas, Marinefuel.com is the industry’s newest, and best, fuel finding resource.

Hooker Signs with Palm Beach Community College
 |
In photo: Martin County High School pitherJohn Hooker
Stuart -- John Hooker, a right handed pitcher from Martin County High School has decided to play college baseball for Coach Alex Morales at Palm Beach Community College.
Hooker, a four year starter for Coach Jerry Smith and the Tigers, is the team’s number one starter since freshman year. He has surpassed school and area records in his first three years and figures to own a few more before he graduates.
Hooker has been actively recruited by more than 25 colleges and universities since his six-win freshman season which included a no hitter. According to Hooker, his decision to choose a junior college over the D-1 and D-2 schools that are interested in him was an easy one.
“I want to stay eligible for the draft and play professional ball with wooden bats as soon as possible” Hooker said. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to play for and develop under Coach Morales and his staff. He is very well known and respected by all of the D-1 schools and pro scouts. “
PBCC has one of the best reputations in the state for development and exposure to send players to the next level. Hooker also gave praise to his current high school coach Jerry Smith.
“Coach Smith has been great with me, he has let me call my own games since freshman year and has always given me the toughest starts and that has really helped me to develop and gain the maturity needed to play at the next level.”
Hooker has been taught by his father, a pitching coach, since he started pitching at nine years old. He has been working very hard this offseason with regard to strength training and conditioning. He began training privately in the TRX method with fitness guru Ms. Terri Lloyd at “Anytime Fitness” in Palm City and credits his increase in size, strength and speed directly to her and the program.
“I am very proud of John’s decision making through out this long and stressful recruiting process, which has been going on for three years now.” said John Hooker, Sr. his father.
“He did not want to get locked up and be ineligible for the draft for three years.. He would be throwing too many curve balls vs. aluminum bats. If you do not have the velocity required for the top 15 D-1 schools at this point in your career, then you go to Junior College and develop and there is no one better to do it with than Coach Morales.”
Currently, Hooker is focusing his attention and work ethic on his upcoming final season at Martin County High School and preparing for the upcoming MLB draft in June.

Golf Legend Errie Ball Statue Unveiled at Willoughby Golf Club
 |
In photo: Errie Ball with artist Geoffrey Smith
Stuart, FL, November 24, 2009 -- The community recently honored Errie Ball, 99, the Golf Pro Emeritus at Willoughby Golf Club, with a bronze bust by sculptor Geoffrey Smith. Ball is a golf legend and is the lone survivor of the players in the very first Masters in 1934.
Ball has been affiliated with Willoughby since it opened in 1989 under the leadership of Erling Speer. Gerry Knebels, the head professional at Willoughby since it opened already knew Ball and was pleased when he left John's Island in Vero Beach for Stuart.
Ball is a native of Wales and began playing golf very early. In fact, when he was only 15, he played in the British Open and was recognized as the youngest contestant ever to compete. Now, Errie Ball is also recognized as being "the last man left standing" from the very first Masters in 1934.
The unveiling of the bronze bust was the beginning of the annual homecoming party for seasonal and year-round residents of the club. Ball was joined by his wife, Maxey and his children and grandchildren.
The statue is located by the first tee and serves to remind all golfers what golf is all about and the lessons Errie has taught us all about golf and life, commented Arnie Eckelman, Willoughby President.
Ball remains active at Willoughby both as a teacher and a golfer. Gerry Knebels summed it up by saying, " He is the ultimate golf professional. He has earned his place in golf with his knowledge, integrity, professionalism and his playing record. If you listen to him you can learn something new about the golf business every day."

Stuart, FL — It was a beautiful day to hit the links on September 26 for the ARC’s “John Pierson’s Toyota of Stuart Swing into aKtion Golf Tournament at Mariner Sands Country Club. Golfers enjoyed a great breakfast followed by a shotgun start at 9 am. Throughout the day, golfers and onlookers kept cool thanks to the complimentary Budweiser products, courtesy of Southern Eagle Distributing.
Immediately following golf, everyone met at the clubhouse to enjoy an exquisite lunch buffet prepared by Chef John Saundry followed by the announcement of the golf awards.
72 golfers participated which made for some great competition. Danny Palm won the prize for the longest drive and Jim Tombari was the closest to the pin; Bob La Rossa, Danny Palm, Gary Poh and Joe DeJulia were the first place gross winners. First place new score winners were John Ritter, Shaun Fitzmorris, John Thatcher and Tim Geddis.
Jim Tombari hit a hole-in-one on hole #6 and won his choice of a Carnival cruise for two or two Continental Airline Tickets donated by John Pierson’s Toyota of Stuart.
Unfortunately no one was able to claim the 2010 Toyota Camry LE or the Professional Golf Cart. The ARC wishes to thank all the sponsors of this event including, John Pierson’s Toyota of Stuart, Southern Eagle Distributing, Publix Super Markets, The Hometown News, Atlantic Tire and the many local businesses that purchased tee signs and donated silent auction items.
The tournament netted $12,000 which will be used to support children and adults with developmental disabilities. ARC is dedicated to helping children and adults with developmental disabilities improve their quality of life through affordable housing, education, awareness, job training, behavioral therapy and other related healthcare and support services. TREASURE COAST SPORTS EVENTS RECEIVE FLORIDA SPORTS FOUNDATION GRANTS
 |
STUART, FL – Representative William Snyder (R-Stuart) announces that the Florida Sports Foundation (FSF) has awarded the Treasure Coast Sports Commission a grant for the Florida Winter Nationals, a youth baseball tournament for players ages 8-15. The event will be held in locations in Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie counties, December 27-January 2, 2010. It is expected to bring 5,000 visitors to the area and over $3.7 million in economic impact.
Representative Snyder stated, “I am proud to see that the sports team license plates sold throughout the state were providing this funding for grant awards.”
Sporting events bring additional tourism to Florida causing a significant out-of-state economic impact on an annual basis. Since 1996, the FSF has been assisting communities around the state in their efforts to attract sport events and opportunities. A 2005 Economic Impact of Sports Survey showed a $36 billion economic impact annually to the State of Florida.

Palm City Golden Games swimmer takes 4th at National Senior Games
 |
Stanford, Ca -- For high school and college competitive breast stroke swimmer, Alfred Bobb of Palm City, the nostalgic experiences of racing again in the local Martin County Golden Games, the Florida Senior Games and then advancing to the Nationals at Stanford University was the highlight of his year for not only himself but his 88 year old father. Bobb never quite had the opportunity to compete on the National level while swimming on scholarship for Oberlin College in Ohio. His fan club, consisting of his father, a resident of Stuart and high school friends was delighted to have the opportunity to finally witness Bobb qualify and place in the top eight at Stanford University’s Senior Games in California the weekend of August 1, 2009.
In November 2008, Alfred Bobb competed in the Martin County Golden Games and was awarded a silver and 2 gold meddles in the breast stroke event. He advanced to the Florida Senior Games in Cape Coral and eventually, qualified for the National Senior Games where he placed 6th in the 100 yard breast stroke and 4th in the 50 yard breast stroke, competing against more than 150 people. With more than 10,000 athletes ages 50 and above competing and representing each of the 50 states, the National Senior Games are held every two years and rotate around the Country.
“It was an amazing experience to be able to have my father and friends on the pool deck cheering me on and having the opportunity to meet Rick Colella, who swam for the USA at the Montreal Olympics in 1976 and Mark Spitz, gold winning medley relay USA team member in the 1972 Munich Olympics. Although, neither of the athletes competed in my age division,” said Bobb.
The 19th Annual Martin County Golden Games, in 2008, was the event that launched Bobb’s return to competitive swimming. “Much thanks to the Martin County Parks and Recreation Department and Jesse, coordinator of Golden Games,” said Bobb, who is currently training for the 2009 Martin County Golden Games, November 1 through 9.
"It really is great to see local seniors qualifying and advancing on to State and National Games. It’s even better to see them placing, especially in the top eight. We are proud of Alfred and glad he represents Martin County’s Golden Games at a National level,” said Moore, Sports and Athletics Coordinator for Martin County Parks and Recreation Department.
The next Martin County Golden Games are set for November 1 through 9 at venues throughout the County. Athletes from all over Florida are invited to register and compete in events such as track and field, table tennis, golf, swimming, bowling, cycling and more. At the conclusion of the Senior Games, athletes can participate in the awards ceremony held at Indian riverside Park.
For more information regarding the Martin County Senior Games, contact Jesse Moore by calling 772-221-1419.

Junior Anglers Thank Tournament & Boat Captains!

In photo: Greg Kusel and Anthony Ferrara taking a break and enjoying the “Chamber of Commerce day” off the shores of the beautiful Treasure Coast.
By Jeannie Ferarra
STUART -- On Saturday, August 8, 2009, Martin County High School (MCHS) Freshmen, Anthony Ferrara, and Greg Kusel were afforded a day at sea that they will never forget! Thanks to the Stuart Sailfish Club and their 32nd annual Jr. Angler Tournament. The boys were generously provided an entire day of deep-sea adventures thanks to the Boat Captain, Eric Knipfer, and first mate, Natalie Knipfer, on the boat, “One of the Girls.”
Special thanks to the event sponsors, Stuart Sunrise Rotary Club, AJ Boatworks, and many other local businesses; due to their generosity, the youth were able to participate in the two-day event that was open to all children age 15 and under. There were raffles, skill stations, food, fun, trophies & awards. Every angler won. While the tournament was open to all kids, tournament organizers also welcomed kids that would otherwise not have the opportunity to fish. Anglers came from Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Port Salerno Elementary, and Boys & Girls Clubs from as far away as Indiantown, Samaritan House, Hospice kids, FOS Volunteers, Boy & Girl Scouts, ARC of Martin County, 20-200 Group Kids and others.
